Assuming we're talking about the same thing, I don't really see much of a benefit. It may require using poor swings just to keep the ball in motion. (much like the hit-a-way did)
Low the swing away he is referring to is a ball on a string that is different to what you are thinking.

My son took some lessons from a guy who had one and it is a good tool as well as a way to get in some swings without having to have someone load a T and have a net. Certainly has their place to get in some work by yourself. I have seen youth travel teams use them as a warm up device.
I have the swing away, pictured above by SultanofSwat. It has lasted a year so far with lots of swings taken. You can adjust the height of the ball by pulling a cord in the back. The cords provide some resistance; the ball won’t hit the net unless the batter takes a full swing. I like this aspect of it. It reinforces the "swing hard in case you hit it" mentality. As far as adjusting to outside and inside pitches, it is great. You get pretty good feedback by seeing the ball travel in the proper direction. The only think I don’t like about it was installing the net with the little clips. It is a very tight fit. It’s also pretty bulky. No real way to store it, it’s assembled and moved around the back yard/garage when not being used. I think they make a portable one, but I’m not sure how much better that would be in terms of bulk/storage.

It was worth the money we spent.
