I just was hoping to get some clarification. In a game today, a groundball was hit up the middle with a runner on first. the second baseman knocked it down, had it in his hand, and tagged the bag while he was on the ground with his opposite hand (empty glove hand). because it was a forceout, i was under the impression that the runner was out because the fielder had possession of the ball and a body part on the bag (similar to a foot on the bag when you catch the ball for a forceout). however, he was ruled safe because he tagged the bag with the glove (and no ball). what is the rule here? thanks so much for any help or advice you can offer.
