I'm sorry science has shown that players of the past were stupid all in the name of "being tough."

Exactly how has science shown that to be??

I tend to agree with TR! Where have all the men gone? In society in general these days boys aren't allowed to fight, can't or won't defend themselves, and have experienced little if any real physical engagement.

Baseball has precluded by rule, players from being aggressive; can't throw inside, can't charge the mound, can't make contact with a defender and have even eliminated the non-fraternization guidelines.

So being tough is stupid huh?? I'm glad you didn't raise my son.
What rule says a pitcher can't throw inside?

"Can't charge the mound?" Really? When was that allowed by rule and since when is fist-fighting part of the game?

What rule change precludes making contact with a defender? Did Cousins make contact with Posey? Was he punished or even criticized for it by anybody other than Giant fans?

What non-fraternization guidelines?

The idea that if one does not brawl one is "not tough" is absurd. Brawling is the mark of a thug.

I think at the end of the day we all like the hitter that stands in there and doesn't give up on a pitch. We all want the player that puts the team first. And we all want them to know what to do if getting hit is inevitable.

I've got no problem with a player that crowds the plate or a pitcher that lets him know he isn't going to have it.

What I have a problem with is a player being told by a coach to walk up there and let them ball hit him on purpose. Bad News Bears was a movie.

I also have a problem with a player that thinks the only way he can get on base is to get hit intentionally.

We may like that hitter for only one abSmile The real problem with a hitter that gets hit alot is the injury factor as he eventually ends up playing games with swollen arms, hands, fingers etc that have a negative impact on his defense and subsequent abs. I personally think there are more negatives then pluses to a hbp, especially at the highest levels where guys are throwing 90-95.
