Both have overcome poor paternal genetics to become top players...

And that's not a knock on the moms at all - saints, both. Clearly, it's the dads that have the issues.

Hello everyone. Longtime lurker and first time poster! I have a freshman son at BL and I was hoping to learn more about the district. He will not be on the varsity team but I hope to catch a few of their games this year as I hear they should be stacked.

How do you guys see this district shaping up?
Who are the better players on each team?

Bishop Dunne
Bishop Lynch
Fort Worth Nolan
Grapevine Faith
John Paull II
Prestonwood
TCA

TCA-Lost district MVP James Foster & Colin Jones. Sharp is one of the best coaches in area. TCA is well coached and prepared. Sharp does an excellent job scouting. Should not be in the hunt but Sharp will get them in the fray.
I was unable to see schedule.

Nolan - New coach. A lot of talented football players on the diamond. Should be tested in Flower Mound and Arlington Lamar tournaments. Likely to finish in the middle of the pack. Not been the same since Funneldrill left.

P-Wood - Outstanding talent has passed through the program - Swagerty (Arizona State)and Rupp (Texas). Talent level may dip slightly this season. Houston Christian Tournament and games against West and Martin will test team.

Faith - Playing up to avoid travel. Had great senior group last year. May be a rebuilding year. North Texas Tournament of Champions and Northwest tournament will prepare team for district.

Lynch - Senior dominated team. Faltered in state tournament in San Antonio last year. Reasonable schedule with games with Poteet and Highland Park plus South Grand Prairie and Heath tournaments. Should be in the mix.

Predicted finish:

Lynch and P-wood and (maybe TCA)
TCA
Nolan and Faith
JP II and Dunne

7 new players wow! Did Prestonwood lose alot of seniors? Are the new guys underclassman and move ups from the JV or are all 7 of the kids new to the school?

3 that I know of are Juniors that are new from Coppell.

Barrett Bass- P, INF (good pitches, deceitful pitcher)
Matt McCollum- UTIL. (good bat that sprays the ball to all fields)
Chandler Selah- OF (good bat)

1 is a senior from Coppell
Ian Richards- C,P (good bat, good arm, good player)

As for the others, I'm not quite sure.

Don't forget about Junior Kris Gardner. He's a good, tall, lefty hurler who should do some big things.

I appreciate the props. Here is something that is even more amazing though...there is still an Hebert playing at Lynch?

There have been Hebert's playing at Lynch since I was the freshman coach at Jesuit back in 1993! My first football game I ever coached was a 7th/8th game at Lynch against Jerry's St. Pius Team.

Small world.
Coaching will be Lynch's challenge. See San Antonio "fault'er."

Beck will over match many, but remember he is more of a thrower. In a good ISD district he would get hit.

Lynch has several good seniors. If they don't win it all it will only be because they somehow beat themselves, in District I mean. I have no idea what state tapps looks like.
Top Shelf:

I agree in District 1 Lynch is the favorite, they have experience and are very hungry from what I hear. Don't count out P-wood and TCA. TCA is very well coached and returns some solid starters. P-Wood has a ton of new players so who knows. Here is some info on other teams statewide.

Down in San Antonio the road always seems to run through Central Catholic. They are well coached and a very Disciplined team. Also Austin St. Michaels usually has a couple of solid players.

Houston should be exciting with St. Thomas, St.Pius and now Houston Christian moving up. St. Thomas is my pick to take it they are the defending champs and have a future hall of famer in Craig Biggio as the head coach.

Beck would be a 1 or 2 on almost any HS team, public or private. He hit 90 this past summer and again in the fall at Jupiter. I would take that type of "thrower" on my kid's team.
Lynch is a very very senior heavy team. Twitchell, Gebhard, and Martin are all 4 year starters. The rest of team is 3 year starters including Beck and Hebert. Last year Lynch started 9 juniors. I believe the only Junior on this years club is Smith who is a good player. If this isn't the year for Lynch to make a run at the finals, I don't know which one is?
Here are some good district scrimmages:

Dunne
2/5 vs Trinity Christian Cedar Hill

Prestonwood
2/5 Thurs HSAA (scrimmage) PCA 4pm
2/9 Mon HSAA (scrimmage) PCA 4pm

TCA
2/14 at Jesuit 1pm

Lynch
2/5/ 5:00pm at Argyle Liberty Christain Warriors
2/20/ 4:30pm at Mesquite Poteet Pirates
2/21/ 3:00pm at Naaman Forest
2/23/ 5:00pm at Rockwall Heath Hawks
