My son attended his first TCU showcase as a sophomore. He attended the November showcase, which had a number of D2 and JUCO coaches in attendance -- not only watching the proceedings but working with the kids one-on-one also. It was his first showcase ever and a great way to get familiar with the pro tryout format. He got a lot of good instruction during the two-day event, including a video swing analysis, and an evaluation sheet at the end rating him in a number of areas. The eval. sheet was very helpful in letting him know what areas he needed to work on. He attended his second TCU showcase this summer as a rising junior. Lots more coaches were there from other D1's, D2's and JUCO's, but lots more kids too (probably twice the number of those at the Nov. showcase). Less personal instruction at this one. Son and his dad left disappointed -- large number of participants limited his playing opportunities, plus he did not play to his potential -- but coaches there must have been paying more attention to his "tools" than his performance, cuz he's gotten two personalized contacts since then (one from a D1 and one from a JUCO) with specific remarks about what they like in him. I highly recommend TCU's showcases and the November showcase would be an especially good one for sophomores to attend so that can get lots of good individualized instruction. One other thing: at both showcases Coach Schlossnagle gives an extremely helpful talk to both the players and parents about the recruiting process, NCAA requirements, etc.

Just got off the phone with my husband, who conversed with another baseball dad this morning. His son participated in Baylor and A&M's 1-day showcases recently. He said the Baylor showcase was extremely well-run, but added that they were disappointed with the A&M one. The dad said that A&M must be looking for pitchers, because they showcased the '07 pitchers way more than everyone else. And while one group was on the field, other groups were just sitting. That was not the case at the TCU showcase. The staff works hard to make sure everyone is busy the entire time.
with Infield08...son went to a couple of them and they host a showcase in the summer...get there!! Anything TCU does is very well run...and well attended by Tx & Okla, La. recruiters & pro scouts. Schloss has a good following in the baseball world!
Monk Kreder, known as Studentofthegame, is there as a result of several events & has great things to say, too.
