Assistant coach Mike Crossland is coaching the team and they have done very well since he took over the reigns. He will be the head coach for the rest of this season but the future is unknown.

I understand they may do a nation wide search for a new coach after the season and Mike Crossland would be able to put in his resume.
I knew someone would put me on the spot sooner or later! Roll Eyes

I would rather not comment on why he was removed as head coach since all my information is second hand. noidea I understand they may have had an article in the Gallatin paper a couple weeks ago and my family saw a very small piece on the nashville news, otherwise things have been silent.

I will say it had nothing to do with his knowledge of baseball or coaching abilities.

The situation with Coach Smith is far from resolved at this point. To offer much about it at this point would be unfair and possibly detrimental to a career.

I am fully informed on the "substance" of the problem and would find it incredibly hard to believe that they are true.... agendas between a college president and an athletic department may be at the core of the real problem.

It is important to understand that the baseball program at Vol State is the "bell cow" of the athletic department herd. The past couple of years have not been as successful as anyone would like them to have been, nor as folks are used to. That may be the real issue.
