Wakeland's experience will keep them amongst the favorites for 2011. They will have one of the most explosive line-up's in the state along with 2 veteran underclassmen taking the bump. Expectations are extremely high but the reality of losing several key players will be the initial challenge early on. It looks like Heath will emerge as the early regional favorite which will make for another electrifying game, Wakeland vs. Heath 3/19/11, 1:00 @ Rough Rider Stadium. See you there!
Before we ever play a game or had a practice:

WF Rider will be the best team in 4-4A again as that district gets weaker with Guyer moving to 5A, but Ryan could challenge them if LHP Adam Choplik makes it back on the mound.

A few new teams in Region 1 and some strong west Texas programs will challenge for the region title.

Brenham appears to be the class of Region 4 again with several D1 commits who were key players in 2010.

Calallan and Moody. Do I need to tell you about them?

Wakeland and Heath will be good, but there are so many Dallas area teams who could jump up and get you with the one game coin flip scenario, you never know who is coming out of this. (See Wakeland last year.)

Good luck in 2011!
I still think Wakeland will be in the mix. The loss to Frisco was a fluke and they have played lights out since. Midway was fortunate in the Tournament of Champions to beat them because they had not started district play yet thus they had all their pitching available. I agree that Highland Park is the real deal this year. Watched WF Rider play early and was not impressed.

Have not posted here in awhile, but thought this was interesting...

I believe your right Nuke, Wakeland will be in the mix.. However I would not dismiss the loss to Frisco completely as a fluke..They have a lot of talented ball players and I believe they will also be in the mix. Lots of baseball yet though

Tight game throughout in which moving runners over played a big role in getting them across the plate. More "small ball" than I had expected since #1s or 2s were not pitching.

Can't say I've ever heard of a 20+ hit game with 9 extra base hits referred to as a small ball game before...assuming the box score in the paper is right. Weird.

Box score is not everything. Most runs were scored as a result of moving runners over with bunts, groundballs, or stealing. There was a SAC bunt for each team and several failed bunt attempts. It was obvious the coaches realized it was going to be a close game and played it that way. Five of the extra base hits came from 2 hitters (3-Thompson, 2-McCracken). It's a feel for the game. Wakeland 14 groundballs, Heath 8 groundballs. There could be 14 extra base hits (a double each half for each team) and no score if they are not moved.
