Does anyone hear have an idea what the average pitcher throws speed wise in a Texas 5A high school league? From what I hear in Cincinnati Texas high school baseball is the best there is.

Thanks for the help.
Check out www.ThrowFaster.com It's a site I made describing different methods for gaining arm strength. It also chronicles my "Tommy John" surgery and recovery.

Now that there is a tough question but with
a little research, I think I have found you
an answer.

You gotta realize that here in Texas, in our
5A 'league' our state leadership has broken
things down to 4 separate regions with 32
districts and i'm guessin' there are over
250 teams in this here 'league'.

You gotta unnerstand that due to the size of
Texas there are a lotta variables as to temperature and humidity and such that will
act on a kid's pitch speed.

For example- down on the gulf coast, the humidity can really make a ball heavy and
on some nights a kid pitching at say Galveston
or Corpus Delecti would have some problems
whuppin' it up to the high 70's. On the other
hand I heard about a kid out at El Paso
Mentira H.S. who was chunkin' it up there at about 108-to 110 due to the elevation and dry air.

Now you need to throw into the equation that
almost all 5A schools have at least 4 or 5
starters and figger in the fact that 37% of
them are lefties you can end up with some
pretty skewed numbers.

When all is said and done- including the hi-
tech, scientific survey that we just ran it
ends up that the average 5A Texas pitcher is
throwing it up there at 94.7 mph and it don't
matter who's holdin' the gun.

Good luck in gittin' yer Ohio boys up to
speed.

PD - i once witnessed that on old f.m. 2381
outside of amarillo back in the 60's. radar
wasn't as good then but three different Potter
County deputies came up with the same readings
and that's why i say it don't matter who's
holdin' the gun.

KIRK - you are very correct and when we took
out all the curves, slurves and knucklers-
our computer model came out to within .17
of your calculation so we'll stick with
yours.

#1 - your's is a good idea but then our pore
ole 5a coaches would be short about 462.5
pitchers and would have to go down to the
8th and 9th grade teams to fill out their
rotations.

Swinger- If it's the same guy I think you're referring to, well he doesn't start at 90 mph - he starts at 80, then after lesson #1 the radar gun moves up to 83 mph, then lesson #2 - 85 - you get the drift...The next thing you know he's asking for your Master Card...."And look, Joilla!!! Your son now throws 93, I don't care what anyone else says.."
