At the Conference USA tourney, top-seeded Rice was upset by eighth-seeded Alabama-Birmingham, 8-2. It was only the second loss Rice has had in a conference tournament since 1996. The Owls are now 42-12 on the season.

At the Southland Conference tourney, top-seeded UTSA was upset (for the third time this year) by eighth-seeded A&M-Corpus Christi, 7-5. UTSA, 38-18, has lost 4 out of their last 5 games.

In the Big 12 tourney, top-seeded Texas A&M continued its recent slide, mustering up just five hits in a 4-1 loss to Oklahoma, the seventh consecutive defeat for the Aggies. Oklahoma capitalized on three A&M errors to score four unearned runs and defeat the Aggies 4-1.

Missouri was the only team that won as the high seed in the Big 12 tournament. K-State, OU, Baylor all won yesterday.
Story of the SOUTHLAND TOURNAMENT is Chorpus Christi the 8 seed over the one seed UTSA. This is not an upset but pretty impressive to say the least

TEXAS STATE- 22
UTA- 2
in 7 innings

24 for hits for the cats.

ALSO UTA was the first team to be eliminated from the tourney they lost to Southeastern Lousiana 7-3.
UTSA and Northwestern State are currently playing to stay alive at noon today.
deez,

It was a very impressive hitting display by Texas State yesterday. As the stats indicate, 1-9 they were in a zone. As you mentioned as well, UTA was the first team eliminated from the SLC tournament with a 7-3 loss to Southeastern Louisiana today, a team UTA took two of three from earlier in the year. Give them credit, they got the big hits when they needed them.
Congrats to all the teams still alive in the SLC Tournament.

Now I want to congratulate UTA on the things they did accomplish this year.
In 2007 they were (13-40, 4-26 SLC)
In 2008 they were (26-31, 16-14 SLC)
Defeated Alabama(2), Texas, Oklahoma ST. and Texas A&M.
The Mavs were led by the strong leadership of seniors Mcleod and Slinkman and have new leaders waiting in the wings in Martin, Choice, Otteman and others.
Coach Thomas was also able to get some of his younger guys some quality innings which should allow the Mavs to continue building on what they accomplished in 2008. Although the goal of every team in the SLC is to make it to the big NCAA dance, I feel confident that Coach Thomas is pleased with the progress that the UTA Mavs made in his first year at the helm.

Until next year, good luck to all High school and College teams still fortunate enough to still be playing baseball this time of year!
