College Station Regional
1. Texas A&M
4. Illinois-Chicago

Notes:

* UTSA won the Southland Conference championship, but blew a chance at a regional bid by losing to A&M-Corpus Christi twice in the conference tourney. This occurred last year as well.
* Texas Southern secured a bid despite having a dismal #290 RPI
* Dallas Baptist, a 2-seed, became the first independent to secure a regional bid since Miami in 1992
* One ESPN commentator predicted that Rice could win the whole thing
* Another ESPN commentator mentioned UT as a sleeper that could win the national championship

Found the following on Aggieathletics.com. Most likely, they will post a schedule by tomorrow since games begin on Friday.

Aggies to Host NCAA Baseball Regional
For Immediate Release

INDIANAPOLIS- The Big 12 Champion Texas A&M baseball team was selected as one of 16 institutions that will host an NCAA Division I regional this upcoming weekend, the selection committee announced Sunday.

Action in the College Station Regional will get underway with a pair of games on Friday, May 30 at Olsen Field and will run through the championship game on Sunday, June 1. A possible second championship game would take place on Monday, June 2. Game times will be released as soon as they are determined.

“We are thrilled to be able to play at home in front of our fans,” A&M coach Rob Childress said. “This is one of the things that we as a team have worked for all year, to put ourselves in a position to reach our ultimate goal of being the last team standing in Omaha. I am excited that that road will begin at Olsen Field on Friday, and I know our fans will continue the great support that they have shown us all season long.”

Texas A&M joins the following institutions also selected to host regionals: University of Georgia (Athens, Ga.); University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Mich.); Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, La.); University of North Carolina (Cary, N.C.); Coastal Carolina University (Conway, S.C.); University of Miami (Coral Gables, Fla.); Cal State Fullerton (Fullerton, Calif.); Rice University (Houston, Texas); University of Nebraska (Lincoln, Neb.); Long Beach State University (Long Beach, Calif.); North Carolina State University (Raleigh, N.C.); Stanford University (Palo Alto, Calif.); Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, Okla.); Florida State University (Tallahassee, Fla.); and Arizona State University (Tempe, Ariz.).

It will mark the seventh time that Olsen Field and A&M have been selected as a regional site. The Aggies first hosted in 1989, and did so again in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2003 and most recently last season.

Reserved all-session tickets are $55 and are available now on aggieathletics.com. Reserved all-session tickets will go on sale over the phone and in person beginning Monday at 8 a.m. Phone orders may be placed by calling 979-845-2311 or 888-99-AGGIE.

Individual session tickets will go on sale beginning Friday at 8 a.m. and will run $10 for reserved, $7 for adult general admission and $4 for youth general admission. Aggie students may purchase tickets on gameday for $4.

All-session parking is available through the ticket office for $12 and includes the two main Olsen Field lots and the southeast lot of Reed Arena. Parking will be sold only by phone or in person at the box offices, or may also be purchased at the lots on gameday for $4. Much more information on tickets and parking will be available Monday.

UTSA beat tu (coached by Soggy Burrito), swept K State, beat the Baylor cubbies, beat UH (aka Cougar High). Lost to A&M (by one run, I think) and Tech. So they beat two teams who are in the tourney.

Ended up 39-19, won the SLC regular season championship.

Certainly more deserving than some who made the cut.

Don't forget that last year Mark Johnson took Sam Houston (also in the Southland) to the regional finals. Hardly "easy win" material.

[OSU was 27-24, sixth in the Pac 10. Doubt the sixth place Pac 10 team goes to the tourney very often - right or wrong as that might be.]

It seems like a lot of hard work, excellent coaching, and notable talent are converging this year for DBU's team.

Dan Heefner is DBU's new head coach this year, having previously served as the Patriots' hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. He and his coaching staff (pitching coach Travis Wykoff, RC/fielding coach Nate Frieling, and grad asst. Cody Montgomery) have done an outstanding job developing DBU's talent. Equally wonderful is the fact that the players have absolutely loved the way the program is being run this year.

Austin Knight, a freshman All-American last year, is headed to the Cape Cod league this summer, as is DBU's RHP Victor Black. I was talking to a pro scout the other day who had recently attended a DBU game and he was very excited about the draft prospects for junior outfielder Evan Bigley and senior closer Tyson Bagley. Six players have BA over .325 and another 5 are at .300 or right on the bubble.

DBU's prospects look very bright, and a lot of folks are wishing them the very best as they take on the Houston Cougars Friday night!
