I just watched the Trinity - Westlake game on TV. I was interested because Trinity beat our eventual state champion earlier in the year in Dallas.

My question is what does 5A division 1 and division 2 mean? Is it a year long distinction or something earned over the course of the season?

Sorry about football on the baseball site but I could not think of anywhere else to go to ask.
Thanks

I'm sure you can find someone who can phrase his more eloquently, but in Texas the 5A teams and the 4A teams split up based on enrollment. Even though there are 5 divisions, there is still a quite large disparity enrollment in the top 2 divisions.

To segway this back to baseball, to my knowledge baseball does not split like this.
Football is the only sport that splits into 2 divisions. I guess enrollment disparities only matter in football? Wink

In football 4 teams from each district (conference) make the playoffs. Of the 4 teams, the 2 with the largest enrollment go into the Division 1 bracket and the smaller two go into the Division 2 bracket. There are 6 rounds.

In all other sports, there are 7 rounds of playoffs.

So does that mean then that a team that finished higher in district but has a smaller enrollment could end up in the division 2 playoffs while a team they are ahead of in the standings goes the the division 1 playoffs? Could two teams in the same district end up being state champs in differing divisions?
