LUBBOCK — Denton graduate Tim Tadlock has thrived at all levels of baseball as a player and a coach. That history is one he hopes to build on as the head coach at Texas Tech.
Tadlock was introduced as the Red Raiders’ new coach Friday during a news conference at Rip Griffin Park by Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt. Tadlock was named interim head coach May 21 following the firing of former head coach Dan Spencer.
“I am very excited to announce Tim Tadlock as Texas Tech’s new baseball coach,” Hocutt said in a statement. “Tim has prepared himself for this tremendous opportunity and honor to lead our baseball program. As one of the nation’s most respected recruiters and coaches, he has demonstrated the ability to attract, teach and win at the highest level. There are great days ahead for Texas Tech baseball.”
Tadlock was a two-time all-district player for Denton. He played two years at Hill College before heading to Texas Tech, where he was the starting shortstop for two seasons before graduating in 1992. He went back to Hill College as an assistant coach for four years before being named the head coach at Grayson County College.
During his time at Grayson, the Vikings won five conference championships as well as back-to-back NJCAA titles in 1999 and 2000. In nine seasons, the team went 435-127 for a .774 winning percentage under his leadership.
In 2006, Tadlock left Grayson to become an assistant at Oklahoma. Following the 2011 season, Tadlock returned to Lubbock as associate head coach for the Red Raiders.
“I am very proud and honored to have been given this great opportunity to lead the Texas Tech baseball program,” Tadlock said in a statement. “I appreciate the commitment that the Texas Tech administration has given to me. We will honor the legacy at Texas Tech and we are looking forward to hitting the ground running.”
