Check out the video below when you have a chance and it will make you think. A self described arrogant, opinionated, local sportscaster here in Dallas does this clip every year, but his commentary at the end is especially challenging this year. It brings to my mind beyond the responsibility for our kids, the return for the time we spend with them (or lack of return for the lack of time we spend with them). Merry Christmas.

Very interesting. Part moving, part contrived. Part outreach, part self serving.

The best advice I ever got as a parent, came from a friendly business competitor. Coincidentally, his son, about a decade older than my kids, was quite the baseball player in HS. His advice was, "never say no to a game of catch. No matter what you're doing, or how busy you are, even if you can only spend a couple of minutes, drop everything and go play catch." I did that, and I think that it's worked...so far.

Have a great holiday everyone.

I've always said that's the most fun two men can have together.
That is indeed great advice. The best part is you don't even really have to go outside to play catch, nor have a glove or even a baseball.

I can't begin to count the times my son and I, while sitting in the family room watchting TV or doing whatever, started tossing something back and forth - whatever it might have been. A football, a toy ball, whatever.

We usually ended up creating some kind of game out of it. Catch with one hand, or see how many times we can toss it back and forth without dropping it, or how close we could toss it to the ceiling without hitting it, or whatever. We did it just a couple days ago.
There are not too many things I can think of more fun than playing catch, or more important. And I have been blessed, Son has never turned me down when I needed to play.

Son came upon game I played when a kid, lying on back and throwing baseball/basketball as high as possible and catching with feet. I had a moment when I saw him doing this the first time, I had never showed that to him.

Rob, I have a baseball in my office, the throwing as close to ceiling as possible game is still played regularly!
