My son just graduated from Johns Hopkins University, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank Tom Rizzi (AKA TRHit) for all of his help.

We live in Wisconsin, Hopkins is in Baltimore. We hooked up with Tom and College Select and he went way out of his way to help us.

Started out by us signing up for his show case, but the day we were to leave for the showcase my Son came down with Mono.

Tom could have simply said to bad, instead he gave us 2 options, 1) refund our money (he didn't need too), 2) have my son join his travel team for a tournament. Since my son really wanted to go to college on the east coast, my son joined Tom for a tournament. Tom then invited my son to play in the PG Wooden Bat tournament in Jupiter.

After the tournament Tom called several coaches he knew personally on my sons behalf, recommending my son to them. One of the coaches he call was Coach Babb at Johns Hopkins.

If you know these High Academic schools, they get 20,000 applications for 2,000 openings every kid with a 4.0+ GPA. You need something to set you apart from the other 20,000 applicants. With Coach Babbs help, my son got accepted and was awarded a Bloomberg scholarhip that covered full tuition (35K+/year).

A couple of injuries, including Tommy Johns surgery (and playing behind a couple of DIII All-American Outfielders) made his baseball experience less then successful. But that drives home what many of the old timers on this site say, pick a school that you will love if your baseball ends short.

With the coach writing a recommendation, my son got accepted to JHU and graduated in 4 years with a major in Neuroscience and is going on for his PHD in either Neuroscience or Biomedical Engineering.

Anyway we wish to express our deepest gratitude to Tom. I am not sure any of this would have been possible without his help.

Thanx for the nice words but if the player does not have what it takes with baseball talent and academics it all means nothing---I can open the door and once the player passes thru the door it is up to the player---your son is a great kid and had all the needed items required---I am pleased that it all turned out well despite the baseball setbacks
Congrats on your son's success. I can't imagine the hours of hard work on and off the field he's put in. He sounds like a great kid.

Anyone that has read this message board for any length of time knows TR is a straight shooter and says what he means, whether it's pc or not. I think coaches probably know that and appreciate his honesty. I think his endorsement carries a lot of weight with the coaches. Players are fortunate to have someone like this in their corner.
Thanks everyone for your kind words for my son. We are of course very proud (and relieved, I don't have to write anymore checks).

Baseballmom,
Of course I remember the Bar-b-Que and what great host you and your Ex were. I haven't been on the site in a couple of years, how is your son doing?

Thanks Tom, Yes my son had the talent and Academics, but as you know at a school like Hopkins someone needs to open the door for you. And if you didn't open it, you at least made sure that the Doorman knew we were coming and worthy of entry.
