Let's not leave out this important piece of the picture though...

"The NCAA's expenses were $956 million. The largest chunk of that spending went to dispersing $560.3 million back to its roughly 1,100 member institutions in 24 sports in all three divisions, as well as $200 million for a one-time payment the NCAA made to schools to fund additional programs."

Roughly 3/4 of the revenue from the NCAA basketball tournament? That's incredible. No wonder it took an FBI investigation to uncover any wrong doing.

That is a very interesting stat when you consider how the revenue compares to that of football.  Not sure what the football number is but surprising that it is at least significantly less than that of basketball.  Of course, if the bulk is coming from the tournament, it is logical, I guess, since there are three championship football games and, well, a lot more basketball games.

I wonder how many big time programs have got damage control plans in place? I find it hard to believe  just a few programs playing the system. I am really surprised more big names haven't got put on blast. I don't agree with paying players. In my opinion they are being paid with usually a top level education. However, when there is that much money being made, everyone wants their hands on some of it. Momma needs a new house!
