With the series over, and with all the talk around here about whether size matters, and talk about whether schools are recruiting HS players too early, I thought this Boston Globe story about Red Sox OF Daniel Nava would be interesting for anybody who had not seen it. Plus, it's just a great story that should inspire anyone who believes in the value of hard work and determination.  Nava has beat the odds every step of the way, from being a 4' 8" HS Frosh, to being a HS Junior who got one hit his entire season, to spending his freshman year of college as the baseball team's equipment manager.  And it didn't get easier when he got to the pros.

Along the same lines, in last night's pregame there was an interview Tim McCarver did with Dustin Pedroia. Thankfully McCarver just asked the questions and mostly got out of the way because Pedroia was awesome...I've never really liked the guy until that interview. It's hard not to like someone who has only one goal in life: win.

Anyway, McCarver asked him something along the lines of whether he was mad or bitter about being 5'7". Pedroia responded that a scout had told him when he was in college that if he was three inches taller he'd be the first pick. Pedroia then held his thumb and index finger three inches apart and said something to the tune of "so this is preventing me from being the number one pick?"
