Whenever I try to get across how bad calls by umpires on pitches not swung at affect the game as a reason games at the ML level should be called using technology, I’ve never really tried to dig up any real proof. Well, the attached is a pictorial presentation of an at bat that took place in the Boston/NY wild card game.
If technology were calling pitches not swung at, the 6th pitch would never have been thrown because the batter would have been called out on the 5th pitch. The 6th pitch is the ball Gregorius hit out in the 1st inning for a 3 run HR and tied the game at 3-3.
