Here is the kind of dad that coaches hate -

quote:

Chris sits in front of the TV and charts each of Tim's starts—pitch, location, where the ball is put in play. "You know what it's for?" Chris says. "Therapy. I used to sit in the stands and give him hand signals, but I can't do that anymore. I have to do something."

Somehow I think Bruce will put up with this guy's dad. Really good article - and I like the stop motion with the commentary.

I think that coaching your son is okay through HS...

At that point you have to let go and let your teaching and your son's ingrained muscle memory/habits speak for themselves. If you did a good job in teaching the fundamentals it will shine through. If you didn't that will show up and the results will speak for themselves.

It's like the scripture says bring up your child in the path he should go and he will not depart from it. Means teach your son the discipline required to be good at anything and when he matures he will adhere to the principles.

JMO
"I used to be that kid who threw up his arms when he didn't get a pitch or I showed emotion," Lincecum said. "I remember a game when I was 13, my dad came out and told me to stop. He hated that."

“That’s the way my dad raised me: don’t get too excited about the good things or the bad things. (People) have expectations for you. You have expectations for yourself. I’m not worried about anything but making good pitches."

Those are from Tim...........

From his dad after the CY Young:

"I couldn't have been more proud. And at the same time reflecting on the years I developed my philosophies on pitching with my father and in turn to my oldest Sean and Tim. One thing I'll share is; This is one of the times in his life it's ok to howl at the moon".

"That I'm so grateful for the sincere support they've(fans) given him. And that the way he appears is just the way he is." He's a better man than I."
