with summer select season starting up - just curious as to what parents and players "EXPECT" from the summer select teams

Is it quality innings, college exposure, character development, or just something to do.

personally - I need to think some more on this before I put my opinion down but wanted to see what others thought

I think you are going to get a wide varity of opinions regarding this issue.

From a Parents view: #1 college exposure is not an issue for us because he has already committed. For others it will be a big deal. #2 playing against good competition #3 is my son continuing to learn from the coaches #4 is he having fun

My sons view: #1 seeing his teammates #2 playing good compitition #3 attempting to get out of yard work #4 honing his excuses to get out of yard work
My son played for the marshals organization. We were given no help, no advice , no support in the the recruiting process. The opportunities my son had were truly the ones he carved out for himself. He is playing college ball now but only because of our efforts to support him as parents and his efforts on and off the field. Don't be fooled, you as a parent are the only true advocates of your child in this politically charged, ego driven select baseball, Find a team that supports the growth of your child developmentally and does not just support certain kids because for some reason they (the coaches) have identified them as stars. Do not walk RUN from this ego driven coaching.
There are good coaches and ballclubs out there I do not believe DBAT,Tigers, etc. are the only game in town. Just find a good fit where your son is given support and instruction and good competition. Attend college baseball camps as soon as your son is a Freshman. Tell college coaches of your interest early on and they will follow your son in his High school years. Varsity play is very important to taking it to the college level so work hard to make the team never let discouragement stand in your way work! work! work! hard and you will make it. Find a circle of coaches and friends that share your vision for you. Dont give up!

this will be our second summer with the dallas diamond jaxx 18's and we have enjoyed every minute it. this is the first organization that we have played for where they didn't make us feel like it was about the money. nick and blake do an excellent job of making sure that we play in showcases where every level of player has a chance to be seen. my #1 goal is to play against top compitition and for go pirates son to gain exposure to college coaches. go pirates son's #1 goal is to meet the co-eds while we are at the CWS #2 goal is to meet the co-eds while we are in stillwater and #3 goal is to play enough to not have to get a job. will be a fun summer!
