I wonder what the public will think about all of this in 40-50 years?

That is what makes the "brand" so neat. The ball in essence is only a ball, tag it, and you define the times and gives those who are viewing it a an idea of the "mindset" of that time. In 50 years people will go to the HOF and get a feel of not only the historical aspect but also a feel for....

Performance enhancing drugs.

The Internet and it's relationship to events (10 mil votes...wow)

racism (Aarons issues vs Bonds)

records and their meanings to the "fan"

McCovey Cove

Humor of the times (shot in space vs branding)

and the list goes on.......

Being a history buff I see it as more than a ball. It has a story behind it and I feel that in 50 years that story would be lost without the "brand" associated with it.
So, tell me what is the difference between all of the current HOF pitchers who have admitted to cheating by scuffing up the ball and Bonds (if...he is ever found to be guilty).

In my opinion, there is no difference yet people attack Bonds on a daily basis for something he has yet to be found guilty of doing.

Scuffing the ball to get better movement etc is still cheating and yet people call them some of the greatest pitchers of all time.

People also love Ty Cobb...who we all know was not the kindest of men and a racist yet he is a beloved HOF figure.

We also know that several and probably soon to be more of the pitchers that Bonds has hit HR's against were using some sort of "vitamin" to get over on the hitters. Yet, again we push them under the rug to attack Bonds.

So, what is the difference between Bonds (if he used) and the pitchers that did and the pitchers that scuffed the ball who are in the HOF? Should all their equipment, balls, etc have the * on them as well?
