Don't really think that this is about the Cubbies being unlucky. It is more. . ..

letting Greg Maddux go as he was entering his prime, letting Bruce Sutter go, renting Nomar for one year, trading Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio many moons ago, perennially thinking 1 guy such as Banks or now Sosa can carry you rather than putting a whole team together. Heck in the early 60's they didn't even have a manager one season, they used the "college of coaches".

Branch Rickey said that luck is just the residue of hard work. Hard work and the Cubs noidea

Anyway, I don't think the Cubs have anymore pressure on them, besides, they have the White Sox to keep 'em company Wink
I think the Red Sox simply found the right chemistry-- a great young GM who ownership allows ro operate freely; a player's manager in Francona; and a very happy team of self proclaimed "idiots" who flat out love to play the game

Th Cubs have not found that as yet and it would seem that the Yanks have lost it, at least for the time being,
Beenthere, I must agree with your final thought on your posting. "They should fire the manager". I am most disappointed with Jim Hendry who allowed his manager and players to get caught up with what the announcers were saying and all that other drivel. I think, in the end, that Hendry will find out that he backed the wrong horse in this race. For reasons that I find indefensable, he allowed the finest analyst to leave town which means that the manager and players won this internal battle. The level of anger among Cub fans is probably higher now than immediately after the season's collapse. As a result of this poor decision making I think Baker is going to be under tremendous pressure this coming year to win the division and advance in order to return in 2006.

The positive, for Cub fans, is that with all this angst and anger among the minions of Cub fans is that the Tribune Co. will give Hendry an even larger budget for 2005 and I feel certain that next years' team will be stronger than the current team. Yes, this includes losing Alou, Clemens and anyone else. Hendry still knows how to make a trade (unlike Ken Williams), and he has a minor league system loaded with young arms that any team would like to get on their roster. Just one man's opinion. Have a good day.
Sammy was asking the manager for some "respect".

Sammycork is a tremendously talented player (and that comment from a White Sox fan) who has forgotten how to play defense and he should wear a football helmet in the field because he is surely going to catch one on the noggin in the next few seasons.

He should have some say in where he finishes his career and how he was treated the last few weeks of the season by the manager.

Baker didn't do anything.

Baylor could have done the same thing with all of the new faces that the Cubs acquired after they picked up Baker.
