Getting my baseball fix again...

Watched my first baseball game of the season this year! I watched my older son's Northwood team (NAIA, Cedar Hill) play their opener yesterday. OCU (last years NAIA national champ and ranked #1 nationally in NAIA this year) came to Northwood. Northwood won the first game 5-0...and after losing a one run lead in the top of the seventh, rallyed for 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win game 2 - great game.

Son was 1 for 1 (pinch hit) in game one and 1 for 2 (with a walk) in game two.

Baseball is back! Life is good!

My son got to pitch 1 inning to close out our 3rd game with Florida State Seminoles. No hits 2 Ks 1BB 1HB and a ground out to 2B. Unfortunately his team did not do to well but it was very exciting to have him pitch his 1st college inning. Called at 3 in the morning to say he was home safely. I think he was dissappointed that they didn't do better but was excited about facing FSU in Tallahassee. He has never been to Florida.
Southpaw Pop -- my son pitched at HSU from '00-'04 -- he doesn't know your son, but he mentioned him when we talked this past weekend -- positive things which he heard from his buddies that finished up last year. I hope he has another excellent season. I think the world of Coach Coleman -- he was a positive influence on PantherSon #1's life for 4 years. Those early February games in Abilene will leave lasting memories ---- I remember Shayne Currin telling me about how he work a snow suit under his catcher's gear! Smile Go Cowboys!

Southpaw,

Good to hear that Dalton is picking up where he left off! Is he a pitcher only now or is he still playing the field as well? We had some cold weather this weekend also. Scott is at Northwood Univ. and they got off to a 6-0 start (including 2 wins against #1 ranked OCU)...but they finally lost their first game today. Scott was 6 for 11 (walked twice) before today (but he went 0 for 3 today). They have Houston Baptist tomorrow and Bellevue, NE this Friday and Saturday. Both Houston Baptist and Bellevue are nationally ranked in the NAIA polls. This week will be tough.

Greg is a senior and is off to a good start as well (3 for 5) and a couple of walks - he has only played 2 games. He plays again tomorrow. We expect a big year out of him (fingers crossed)...
PDad,
During opening weekend, I spoke with several of last year's senior class including two gifted pitchers & our big stick SS who defensively helped my son's ERA. My only regret from last year is that my son couldn't have played longer with those guys. That was a class bunch of seniors. Your HSU alumni son has some great friends. I imagine he is a great friend in turn. Where has his HSU years taken him now? D-Ruck will be looking for a good job & references some day. Do I see another HSU player in--, say 3 years? If by any chance you make a trip to Abilene on a homegame weekend, don't hesitate to let me know. I am sure I will be there supporting the Cowboy cause. I would love to hear more of your son's years.

berk,
As you can imagine, D-Ruck still loves to hit, but he is pitching-only. He was home for a few days at Christmas (60 degrees) and he added to a Dad's memories: Dad, let's go hit. I still have my 5 gallon bucket of baseballs & love pitching to him. Nothing much better than seeing some of my pitches sailing over the right field fence at his old high school. Not to say I have a collegiate fastball, change or hook, but just good stuff.

No doubt, I knew Scott would be successful. I only wish I could watch some of his games. Let him know I am keeping informed of his career. Sounds like Greg is following his older brother's example. Continued success for them both.

D-Ruck grew up playing with LHP/LHH Michael Crabtree of Canyon, now with Houston Baptist. He was always the toughest to get out in baseball for this area. Much like Scott @ Burk. Let me know if Scott noticed this player. Safe travels.
