and the agony of defeat.

Whether it is you personally - or your team.

It sounds like a silly cliche from the Wide World of Sports - but - IMO - whoever came up with that phrase many many years ago truly understood it. They got it.

All of the stuff that accompanies baseball nowadays - steroids - college recruiting nonsense - insane salaries - ridiculous hype - aluminum bats - and on and on.

And none of that stuff means a **** thing.
Just air bubbles - and lots of sound and fury - signifying nothing.

The only thing that you can really feel - in your soul - is the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. There is no middle ground.

And it doesnt make a difference what level it is - or why it happened - or where it happened.

It just never changes for a person who loves the game - player, coach or fan.

It is so exciting - and sometimes so deflating - but it is pure juice.

It makes the engine purr - every day.

IMO.
You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970
