It always intrigues me when CC pitches as the television announcers gush about his mobility and that he's an "excellent athlete".

Baloney. He's as fat as a tub of lard, he probably can't even see his toes when he is standing, his size puts unfortunately an incredible strain on his internal organs, and he has (or had) a good fastball. THOSE are the facts.

Sabathia has been a workhorse for many, many years.   He's thrown a ridiculous number of innings over his professional career.  http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=404&position=P

IMHO this health question/issue has come up because of a lack of "Ws", and team wins.  The Yankees are in a slight decline right now, and Sabathia is right in the middle of it.  The Yankees defense is incredibly suspect in terms of range and skill.  If Sabathia had 20 wins last year, there would have been an article about how MLB pitchers are too skinny.

Sabathia is what he is....a big man.  Only he and his trainers know where he needs to be optimally for health and results.  The Yankees could help him out by giving him a reliable and more consistent catcher, and a younger, more mobile defense.  IMHO Sabathia is not the problem, but part of the solution.

Being a Yankee fan and watching CC a lot, he was an athlete when he was younger. I cannot imagine that anyone thinks he is an athlete now (clueless announcers excluded). This year teams were bunting on him and Andy Petite like mad and it was comical to watch them both try and field them. Personally I'm not sure if CC is done, but I would like to see him compete at a lighter weight.

I would think being able to see your shoes while standing up would a first step to being in optimal health.
