So thinking about a trip to Indianapolis with the family.  Any must do things in Indiana?  I think we are staying near Lafayette. But then heading to Louisville.  Probably going to a bats game, falls off the Ohio and of course the bat museum there.   But what came we do while in Indiana?

the other option is North Carolina, but probably not near the beach.  Any thoughts on things to do with the family?

Indiana is definitely on the most boring states list. The only thing to do of value is do a Indy 500 tour if it’s of interest. A friend who grew up there calls it Indiana-no place. All I ever did was go to my son’s games and bike around during the day for exercise. My son said if his friends and he had free time away from baseball they went all the way to Chicago.

IU has a beautiful campus. It’s rated as one of the most beautiful in the country. But is it something you make part of a trip?

Buffalo Trace distillery in KY.....you could get Blanton's that day if you asked for it behind the counter.  Husband didn't have a clue.  I said "just buy it"!  My son said it was his best Christmas gift that year.

Ashville NC area is nice.  Biltmore, trails, breweries.  Friend is staying in a new cabin at Pilot Cove which looks nice and is south of the area I believe.   They also have a minor league team, The Tourists of the Astros org.

When we were in Indianapolis for a Tournament we did a tour of the Colts stadium which was fun for the kids.  Also ate at the huge open market they have downtown (great Bar-B-Que).  Indianapolis Indians AAA games can be fun.  There’s a river walk there that was OK.

If in Bloomington walk around the Indiana University campus, it’s beautiful.

Louisville is a much more fun city, as others above have mentioned

Not much to add.  If going from Indy to Louisville, go by way of French Lick and see the resort hotels - they are amazing.

Cincinnati is a really fun city with lots to do, especially in the summer (Reds, zoo, aquarium, museum in former train station).

North Carolina is also fairly quiet.  Duke and UNC campuses definitely worth a visit, UNC has a planetarium, Duke has a basketball museum and art museum, and Durham has a lively downtown scene, including the Bulls AAA baseball.
