My son (a junior) sent out intro letters a week or two ago. Yesterday the coach he's been taking lessons from and done camps with since he was 7 told him that two New England DIII's had phoned him inquiring about my son. His high school coach has said no such thing. I'm thinking it may be because his private lessons coach has DI coaching experience on his resume that he has been contacted and the HS coach hasn't. Or the HS coach has and he hasn't said anything. Either way we're grateful to see SOMETHING happening. Should we expect these schools to be calling my son soon? I'm reasonably sure they got no negative feedback from the coach they talked to. Should my son call them, knowing that they've shown some interest? Can someone tell me how to get this grin off my son's face? I think he was seriously thinking nothing would come from these intro letters, and it's still early in the process.

Tom,
You're the last person I'd dare pick a recruiting argument with, but maybe you can clarify something for me? On page 28 of the 2004-05 NCAA Guide for College Bound Student Athletes where it gives the Summary of Recruiting Rules for Div II and III, under Div III with regards to phone calls it states "No limit on number of calls or when they can be made by the college coach". Am I missing something?

I stand corrected--Division III is ok although I will admit I don't know too many who do--they are too busy trying to get the seniors into school

Division I can not call you until after your junior year, July 1, save the special proviso for one spring call in May -

Division II they can begin calls after June 15 between your junior and senior year

This based on book for 2004/2005

As per 2005/06 Division I calls are now one in March of Junior year
