Two incidences have happened in the past 5 days which have royally ticked me off.

On Saturday my team was to play on the road against a team we have never played before. I was going to be out of town at my sister's wedding and my assts were going to run things. Tuesday I emailed the head coach with the phone numbers of all my coaches, AD and principal just in case something happens and the game would be canceled. The head coach took the numbers and said everything was good to go. Friday this other coach calls our AD and says "prom was suddenly changed to Saturday and was going to cancel our game. For some reason I checked our scoreboard website for KY and it shows this team playing a doubleheader against another team who is horrendous (they mercy ruled both games) on Saturday - the day we were supposed to play.

Today we were going to play a home game but there was a huge rainstorm last night. I emailed their AD to get a phone number and he wanted to know something by 1:15 so he could cancel his bus. My pitching coach took half a day off of work (he owns his own business so not a huge deal) and got the field ready. I told the AD we were good to go and the game was on. At 2:00 I get the checks for the umpires and heading to the field to help my coach get the field ready. My AD calls my cell phone and says the game is cancelled because they are not coming.

I go into the principals office because that is who took the call to find out why. They cancelled for 3 reasons

1) They had a kid get hit by a car last week and is out for the season - I can understand that

2) They had another get have to go BACK to jail because he had his third felony conviction

3) There was a track meet somewhere and most of his players went to it and that left him with 7 players. To add to this the busses would not travel with less than 10 people on it. The bus pulled up and saw it was 7 people and left.

I have never played either of these teams in my 8 years as head coach and I have a strong feeling I will NEVER schedule them again.

I hate to think this but I think they were ducking us because we upset the number 4 team in the state Wednesday night and then this past Monday we beat another very strong team.

I am leaning towards calling both of those games forfeits.

Thanks guys - I was a little leary of claiming the forfeits after I had calmed down but I respect what each of you have to say as long time posters that it is the right thing to do.

catcher09 I would love to do that with the media but we really don't have any. The local paper uses the coaches at the high school to write the sports articles. The bigger newspapers around us don't include us in their coverage area.

Any attention we get is what we write about ourselves.

Wow after rereading this that is pretty sad.
I don't know what the Fire Danger is in your neck of the woods today, but if it is low to moderate than you might try sending out publicity concerning your team via smoke signal. That should attract some attention.

Don't try it when the Fire Danger sign reads like this...

Of course you don't want to get too excited while smoke signaling 'cuz you might let things get too hot and spicy...and then the smoke becomes scarce and you're speechless!

Too hot or too spicy and you might get censored!
