Zombywolf;

Did you know that when Daisuke Matsuzaka was 17 years of age in 1997, he pitched every day in the Japan High School Summer Tournament.

This annual tournament is played in Koshien [home of the Osaka pro team].

40,000 Japanese people watched the games in Koshien and 40 million on TV.

Our Goodwill Series players have attended 4 of the National Tournaments. In 1984 our 1st trip to Japan, one of our players provided a "gift", a 6" tall redwood tree.

This tree was planted in a Peace Park adjacent to Koshien and is now 150' tall.

The history of baseball in Japan rivals our history of baseball. In 1932, Babe Ruth and the Yankees toured Japan and played in Koshien.

Baseball teaches life, everywhere in the World.
My son Robert, SSK Promotions visited the Cuban team in Mexico 2 weeks ago and met Fidel's son.

Bob, I personally want to thank you for allowing my son to experience International baseball thru and with your organization.

There's no greater honor to a player then playing for your country
In whatever competition is available.
Were not talking about monotary gain here.
It's called pride.
Pride in the accomplishment of your countryman.

I wonder how many people have watched these games from not only the participating nations, but the world over.

It may not rival the World Cup, but it is a start.

I would imagine that players in other nations would be praying for the call to represent their nation in the WBC.

Why is it that in the USA MLB there is not the same fervor?

After all of the injuries in this years WBC, countries will have a harder time getting top flight players the next time around.

I am not a fan of it
1) hard format to follow (too many games are meaningless)
2) they are taking way to long to play it
3) games have not been easy to find (ESPN & MLB I know, but not at expected times)

If this tournament was played in two weekends, quick hit, big buzz and done.
