Rich Keel passed away today from a heart attack. His son Josh Choate and my son played summer ball together for the last 7 years and are college teammates as well as roomates.

I am at a loss for words, as Rich was like a brother to me. If you are connected in the baseball family in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area, please get the word out.

The funeral arrangements will be made in the coming hours and I'll post them when I find out.

The only solace I can find right now is that Rich was able to watch his son play college baseball this fall, a dream we talked about on many occasions over the years.

Rich doing what he loved to do, watching the boys play baseball in Farmington last summer.

Doug - thanks for posting the funeral info. Since you called last night I haven't been able to think of much else other than Josh. This is truly tragic.

On the bright side, Rich was able to watch Josh play lots of ball, graduate HS and play in college....and he got to see his son become an outstanding young man.

We should all be as fortunate.

My son Eric had a chance to play with Josh on the Marshals a couple of summers ago and we were able to observe firsthand Rich's passion for Josh. And as good as Josh was, what was so memorable was how humble Rich was about it, a seemingly outdated trait. And when I read Doug's post and looked at the picture, a quote from somewhere-can't exactly remember where-jumped into my mind:

Blessed are the humble, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Prayers sent from the Lensing's
