Well mcmmccm, all I can say is, y’all must be feeding your young’uns something in Md that us Ca folks don’t have access to. I’ve scored HS ball for 2 different large schools herein the greater Sacramento area over 11 years now, and in all that time, I’ve only seen 2 Frosh who could hit 80 on either team. Stats, perhaps you're right. I may have overstated 80's pitching velocity for HS Frosh players. All our frosh players on our summer team are in the 80's but at HS, not so much. I was reacting to TPM's attempt to discredit another member by acting as though was impossible.

No problem here. Heck, the last thing I can do is knock someone for responding to a post, allowing their emotions to affect what they write.
But what you said here is something that should be noted. When you talk about the “better” players in any area, as opposed to the players a school has access to, its a very different thing. This nuthouse area is a good example. We have a lot of really good ball players within 50 miles. That’s a reasonable area to draw on for a travel/tournament team, and believe me, there’s some pretty darn good ones around here.
I don’t know for sure how many teams like that there are, but for the sake of discussion I’ll say its 20. In that same 50 mile radius, there are about 200 HSs. That means those same roughly 300 players on those 20 teams, will be spread out over those 200 different schools, and that makes it possible one school gets 2 or 3 players like that, but it isn’t likely.
