This came up yesterday, so I thought I'd see what the general consensus is here.
Any infielder comes up with the ball and makes a throw to first that isn’t handled cleanly:
1. The ball bounces at the first baseman, makable scoop catch by a good first baseman.
2. The first baseman takes his foot off the bag to make a sure catch on a bouncer.
3. Just a very low throw, no dirt, but the first baseman can’t handle.
I was taught, if it’s not a “good” “catchable” throw, it’s a throwing error (say between mid shin and face and not to much of a reach, would be “catchable”)
