I would add, aside from shields, tape jobs, padded batting gloves etc., teaching this simple adjustment puts the thumb in a better position. Most inexperienced or young catcher's rotate their glove thumbside down on middle-in and inside pitches. This exposes the thumb to alot of ball strikes. If you will slightly rotate thumbside up, at the last moment in set-up - after the pitcher has seen his target, it will help the catcher frame and receive the ball in the glove in a way that minimizes these strikes.
