On the jammed comment...it's the old saw about the ball being in the "box". In those spots you should always get a big swing at your pitch and not expand the zone and get yourself out.

On the other hand at 1-2 if you are looking away and get one in the kitchen as a hitter you get jammed. You try to fight it off and get to the next pitch.

It's basic analysis for people who watch baseball all the time but the playoffs get the periodic viewers and part of the analysts job is to highlight those kind of things. Too often McCarver gets cute in the way he does it and says things that grate on the ears of people familiar with the game. That's why he gets critized and fairly so in a lot of instances.

Tim has been well known for his "Mr. Obvious" quotes to his almost undecipherable analogies and his comments on any rules situation is questionable at best.....

There are websites devoted to "mccarverisms"...
As much as it pains me to do it, I have to give him credit for one thing that actually is something I wish more people would understand. He made a comment about as important as velocity is, movement and location are more important. Its just too bad that most people knowing who was speaking, would ignore that comment as they try to do with a lot of what he says.
