MT07LHP,

I don't know about non-issue, but I agree he is the main reason it is such a big issue. Would Canseco have done the book if it wouldn't have been such a hot topic?

TR,

I agree that high school is the best starting point, but it needs to be addressed at all levels.

Guess I don't believe the 1 in every 16 high school figures. If true, high school is definitely the place to start.

However, many start using steroids at the college level or in professional baseball. So it seems like there needs to be monitering at all levels. IMO
TR writes: I answer your questions --why not answer mine-- a Governor who admitted he was on steroids? Why cannot he brought in to testify?—

Answer - For all I care they can call him although I don’t see what his relationship to baseball is and how this makes taking steroids for baseball right or wrong?

TR asks: Can you explain why Roger Maris never hit more than 40 home runs other than the year he hit 61-- can you explain that other than calling is a "Career Year"?

Answer - No. Is this question supposed to provide cover for steroid users?

TR asks: - You can have your goals no matter how idealistic they may seem--they are yours --we all have the same dream but some are more realistic in their dreaming than others.

Answer - So I’m a dreamer because I hope to eliminate steroids in baseball. I also believe it’s a worthy goal. Does this really make me a “Dreamer”?

TR asks: - Why not a testing system in HS to prevent it before it starts? Won't happen !!!--invasion of peoples rights-- but that is where it should begin, not in the pros-- I am all for mandatory testing of HS athletes, male and female in all sports esepcially tennis-- do you thing the Williams sisters have "natural" bodies? Did Martina?- do that and we are nipping it in the bud before it starts-- will you alLow your kids to be tested randomly?

Answer: - I welcome testing. In my competitive days I was at the risk of being tested under the USOC program. In fact I was randomly selected a handful of times. And for the record, the USOC program confirmed I played clean.

TR,

Why did you bother to ask me or for that matter, ask anyone questions if you weren't going to extend to some courtesy for directly answering them?

As I mentioned before, I thought this site was about reasonable, intelligent discussion of baseball topics.

If a poster makes a bold statement, it should be reasonable to ask them to clarify it or explain their position. I would think reasonable people would appreciate the opportunity to make themselves clearer or perhaps have an opportunity to reassess their position. Should some people get a free ride on this site while others have their motives questioned at every turn? TR, as recently as this morning in the Strength & Conditioning area under the post “8th Grade – Up-coming freshman” you directly questioned a poster’s credentials as not being good enough. http://hsbaseballweb.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2976083255/m/114109159 I don’t know the poster, Coach Dan, but I do see he has been providing respectful answers and advice to others for some time now.

You asked Coach Dan questions just like you did me. He also supplied you direct and respectful answers to your questions and you offered a curt reply along with, “Not arguing about it—“. It was a similar response that you offered me.

TR, would you prefer that posters like Coach Dan and I leave this site because our input does not meet your qualifications or other ideals?

I would hope that the rank and file would appreciate posters who provide reasonable advice, opinion and ideas in a respectful, intelligent manner. I have no time for a couple of posters who are demeaning, insensitive and just intellectually dishonest. I also believe that if all posters regardless of their tenure should be able to be called to defend their position or reveal their source of their information they are providing. It’s the only way to keep all of us accountable and may serve to keep our information relatively credible.

As far as the steroid issue, I will admit that I am very passionate about this issue but I’m certainly prepared to offer my convictions in a respectful and intelligent manner and I expect the same from others.

Tr, you recently wrote, “I am all for 'roids" being eliminated but not at the cost of making baseball the scapegoat, which they, the government, is striving to do”.

That’s where we differ. I believe this issue is so important for baseball and for our kids, and in light of the fact that baseball has had ample time to fix the problem that baseball needs all the help they can get. If that means that congress can be effective by “Jaw boning” the issue, then so be it.

My friends, congress is not the problem, steroids in baseball is the problem.

IfI had been here here I would have answered you--- I have other things to attend to other than your attitudes--like my 8 month Westie Puppy and my 11 year old grand son--you are not worth me blowing them off for your idealistic attitudes

I am beginning to see why others leave this GREAT SITE ==we are here for discussion and debate--

Have fun Mr South Idaho

Some cheese and a glass of wine for my wife and I --Thanx-- We are almost to IDOL TIME--dinner before- Simon is class compared to you SBK
TR,

Good to hear you have your priorities in order. I’m in a similar situation with a 5 month old miniature schnauzer and am not doing all that well house breaking it.

You write, “I am beginning to see why others leave this GREAT SITE ==we are here for discussion and debate—“

With all the hub-bub lately about poor mannered posters I resent your insinuation and will not let it go unanswered. You say we are here for, “discussion and debate”. I would welcome anyone to take the time to read my posts, in particular any of our exchanges to see if I offered reasonable discussion. My schedule is quite busy and my ability to post runs in streaks. But when I have posted, I’ve attempted to do so with class and mutual respect for others. I’ve also from time-to-time tried to interject a little humor. I enjoy spirited, intelligent debate and am prepared to defend my position. I respect others that do the same.

TR, should everyone be held to a reasonable standard of statesmanship in order to make this website a productive and enjoyable experience or should it only apply to some? Should some people be offered a free pass while others chastised for similar remarks?

I sincerely appreciate the good advice, interesting dialogue and intelligent debate from the vast majority of posters. I’ve congratulated many on their achievements and I’ve shed a few tears and offered prayers upon reading about tragedies and misfortunes from some.

Again I welcome anyone to search the archives to see if I’ve met this standard. I believe if someone did, I’d overall grade out ok. I certainly don’t believe I deserve TR’s admonition.

If I didn’t appreciate the knowledge and entertainment I gained from others through this site, I wouldn’t have taken the time to say what needed to be said and most likely end up incurring the wrath of some.
