Had a situation with a man on 1st. Defebsive team called time to replace outfielder. Home Ump just starting to get set up behind catcher when the pitcher makes throw to 1st as runner begins leadoff - he got nailed because he waasn't paying attention.

Question is: when does live play begin - I thougth it was either a verbal or physical "play ball" by the home plate umpire. Thought about argueing the call but we kinda got what we deserved for not plaing headsup baseball
To our military men, women and families - You are all awesome - that flag is yours and I thank you for the opportunity for giving me the honor of removing my cap prior to every baseball game I see.

If the ball was not inplay, then there is no call.
Once time has be granted by the ump,no action can occur. In order for the ball to be placed back in play, the pitcher must be on the rubber, the catcher set, and the batter back in the box. at the time the ump should give a verbal "play" as well as some for of hand signal indicating the ball is in play.

As far as getting what you deserved, if there is time out, then why should your runner be worring about being picked off? You got what you deserved is because you did not question the call.
