I mildly disagree....and as long as you can afford a new glove this is what I recommend....
Your "old faithful" is showing signs of becoming worn out.....now you should be thinking about its ultimate replacement....and now is the perfect time!!!
What you do not want to do is do nothing and have a major structural breakdown happen in the course of an upcoming season and have to struggle to get a new glove broken in for use.......
You should buy a new glove now.....and send off "old faithful" to be repaired and reconditioned.... It can cost as little as $50 to have those tears repaired and relaced.....
With Fall ball coming up, this would be the perfect time to break in a new glove.....then when "old faithful" returns from repair, you can put it back into play as your gamer, while having a broken in, ready to play replacement in your bag.........
At higher levels of baseball, it is quite common for players, especially infielders and catchers, to have a gamer and a replacement in the pipeline.....especially catchers as those gloves take longer to break in....
My son (3rd baseman) will practice with his new glove, and play games with his gamer...now they are the same model glove so no issues with differing gloves.....
His roomate (catcher) catches bullpens with his new glove and games with his gamer.....
Just my .02...
Hope this helps.
