When is it time??

Right now i have a PRODJ2 from Rawlings and i LOVE it. my favorite glove.

it has wear and tear, there are scrapes of the leather on the tips of the fingers which dont effect the performance, and there is a 1-2 inch tear in the leather just under the web near the palm which isnt effecting the web.

The outside is pretty much looks great. The laces are all in good condition.

SO my question, as long as i love it and it still "works" is there any need to get a new glove??

I mildly disagree....and as long as you can afford a new glove this is what I recommend....

Your "old faithful" is showing signs of becoming worn out.....now you should be thinking about its ultimate replacement....and now is the perfect time!!!

What you do not want to do is do nothing and have a major structural breakdown happen in the course of an upcoming season and have to struggle to get a new glove broken in for use.......

You should buy a new glove now.....and send off "old faithful" to be repaired and reconditioned.... It can cost as little as $50 to have those tears repaired and relaced.....

With Fall ball coming up, this would be the perfect time to break in a new glove.....then when "old faithful" returns from repair, you can put it back into play as your gamer, while having a broken in, ready to play replacement in your bag.........

At higher levels of baseball, it is quite common for players, especially infielders and catchers, to have a gamer and a replacement in the pipeline.....especially catchers as those gloves take longer to break in....

My son (3rd baseman) will practice with his new glove, and play games with his gamer...now they are the same model glove so no issues with differing gloves.....

His roomate (catcher) catches bullpens with his new glove and games with his gamer.....

Just my .02...

Hope this helps.

Good Advice fro all. One of my sons is a catcher. He has his favorite glove that is his game glove. It is so old that I cannot imagine it has any padding, however in a big game thats the one that he uses. He uses a newer glove for practice and the not so big games. He has done this with two gloves and now has hree gloves that are broken in. He is confident with all three gloves will work. Nothing worse than ahving the laces break and not have a broken in back up
