007 - I have an '07 soph, if he was born a week later he'd be a freshman. On top of that he really didnt hit puberty until right before his 14th birthday. So in addition to being one of the youngest in his grade, he was a late bloomer as well.

Although I thought he would be ready this summer/fall to get his feet wet showcase wise, I probably felt exactly the way you do. Asking myself, "Is he ready, what if it goes poorly, how good is he really, where the heck did I put my rose colored glasses?"

Although I'm still not sure how he will compare to the rest of the talent, I know he's ready to get the process started and is anxious to see where he'll fit.

I think TR nailed it for you, "If you are varsity starter there is no harm in getting your name on the "radar" screen"
If the kid wants to give it a shot....he should go for it
