I have been working with HS and college kids for a while now working on their hitting. Once in a while, the light bulb will go off in my head regarding a hitting issue. Lately, the light bulb has been TIMING. I have noticed that a lot of hitters in this age group have a timing issue where they do not load and get their front foot down soon enough. Basically, getting ready to hit sooner.

Once they understand the concept they are able to square up balls on a more consistant basis.

What is your light bulb recently?

i'm not a fan of the cue get your front foot down early...the front foot is the timer..i dont want it down and waiting.
Timing isn't probematic just for H.S. or College guys. Certainly, even pro's can go through long slumps and even they don't realize that for some reason they are "late."

Also, any "striking" sport, for sure, requires constance viligence and work on the timing of your delivery; tennis stroke, boxing or sparring, s****r, etc...

I think the Op statement focuses on what is often the blame for poor performances, or slumps. But the athlete or coach look for all kinds of other mechanical issues before realizing that he/she just isn't focused early and or ready, visually mentally or physically to strike whatever it is he needs to hit, catch or block!

I was not either for a long time. It's more of a thought of good load, foot down and trust your hands.
