Some plays that are NEVER time plays:

1. Any play where the 3rd out is a force out. (N.B. getting thrown out for failing to touch one's base after a caught fly is first touched is not a force out.) Example: One out, R1, R3. R1 running on the pitch. Batter flies out to F8. R3 legally tags up and scores. R1 thrown out at 1st after R3 crosses the plate. 3 outs, score the run.

2. Any play where the batter fails to reach 1st base. Example: R2, 2 outs. Batter doubles but misses 1st base, R2 scores. Defense properly appeals the missed base. Batter is out, no run scores.

Pologreen,

welcome back! good to see you again.........

MST has given you the classic example of a timing play....

Just as an aside, remember prior to the pitch when you recognize that a timing play is immenent, to signal to your partner so that you are both on the same page.

The signal (most universal) is to point to your wrist as if you had a watch on.

again good to see you again.
