I've been leaving my son little one line tips / bits of inspiration during tryouts on post-it notes in the bathroom so he sees it first thing in the morning. With the first game of the season today (hopefully) I thought I'd send him one via text so he he gets it before the game but I'm running out of ideas. Any little words of wisdom you can share?

A CHAMPION LIFE: AUTHOR UNKNOWN

True champions are not necessarily
the guys that win the Final Four, World Series or Super Bowl.
A true champion is the man who played above his head, playing better than his skill should have allowed,
It is the guy that overcame more obstacles than most to compete.
Not necessarily to win,
but was ready to loose rather than sacrifice
His integrity, moral courage and honor.
This kind of person is seldom honored for his achievements,
But he is the true champion and scholar.

I know that this is a little long for a text but I wanted to share it anyway!
great posts. I have these types of conversations with my son telling him God gave him his abilities, and the team stuff hustle and all that which he does always. But the day of a game I just say "hey have fun out there, its your senior year." dont get too deep on game day.I always tell him remember in the end its only a game, and a game is supposed to be fun. My son used to get in his head a lot and would think too much. so for us we just want him relaxed and do his thing out there.
Here's one my son and anyone I've coached gets tired of hearing but it's true ....

"If you play hard the game gets easy. If you play easy the game gets hard."

I also asked my son about grades tonight for the first time since tryouts a month ago. Even I forgot why he really goes to school.
Beezer,

My son was also a pitcher, and my husband sometimes said to him as he was walking out the door before a game:

"Keep your stick on the ice."

Okay, so my hubby is a hockey fan as well as baseball. But I guess his main point was to give our son a smile rather than technical advice on game day. Big Grin

Best wishes to your son!

quote:
I have hanging on my wall at work a very old saying... It's very simple, but speaks loudly to me.

When I do bad things
I feel bad
When I do good things
I feel good
Abe Lincoln

Now setting in my office, maybe that saying didn't speak as loudly as I thought.

It actually says...

When I do good
I feel good
When I do bad
I feel bad
And thats my
religion.
Abe Lincoln
These are from my Mom:

Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.

Don't cross your eyes or they'll freeze that way.

I hope someday you have children just like you.

Put that down! You don't know where it's been!

Say that again and I'll wash your mouth out with soap.

You don't always get what you want. It's a hard lesson, but you might as well learn it now.

From my Dad:

Get a job.
