My son is a West Point grad stationed at Ft. Riley near Manhattan, KS and needs Tommy John. He was the staff ace at WP, FB topping at 94. He would like to try to further his baseball professionally after his Army commitment.

The Army contracts this particular surgery out, rather than do it in house. They use a network called www.triwest.com, so not all providers in the area are available to him. He can travel to get it done, so anywhere in Kansas, Nebraska, Kansas City area is good.

If you know of or could recommend any good TJ surgeons, that would be a great starting point for our research.

If you'd rather communicate by email, chip@chipporter.com.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
Chip

Dr. Paletta in STL, or you might want to contact the Royals Team doc, for info, I cannot bring up the site you posted.

Keep in touch, hope all is well.
You could call his office and ask for a recommendation of others in the area using the list.
You could do the same for the Royals as well as inquiring into larger bb programs in the area as to who they might recommend.
I do know that people from the surrounding states use Paletta, he is the best around in that area.
As is typical, lots of help from HSBBWers, in PM, email and here on the board and I want to tell you all, that it is ALL appreciated..

A very hearty, Thank You, to you all... clapping

Being in the Army presented some obstacles, but Kirk is going to wind up in the very capable hands of Dr. Timothy Kremchek, Cincinnati Reds team doc. He'll be traveling there on 4/9 and then scheduling TJ surgery asap after that.

Most probably aren't familiar with the military mentality, but he's happy to get the surgery quickly so that he won't miss his deployment with his unit to Afghanistan in 15 months. He believes there will be plenty of sand there, from which to build a mound to work himself back into pitching shape Wink .

Thanks for all the support and help, you guys are wonderful,

Chip

Kirk had surgery yesterday morning by Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati. Kremchek is the Reds team Doc and was trained by Dr. Andrews and has well over 1,000 TJ's under his belt.

His comment after the surgery was, "It couldn't have gone better."

They had to use a ligament from Kirks hamstring since he didn't have the palmyrus ligament in his arm.

Today at his first Phyisical Therapy appt. the PT moved Kirks arm "much further than we can normally move anyone without pain".

Kirk is 100% pain free in his arm (his hamstring is sore) and you'd never know he had surgery just yesterday. He's home for a month now on convalescent leave and as soon as he got home, he took the car to the HS to watch a game.

Life is good.
