To what extent is Boning your bat necessary in today’s bats? What effects does it have on maple bats, I understand ash bats have a softer sweet spot and the boning process helps harden the bat. Are there any other benefits to boning, and does it need to be done regularly with a maple bat?

Boning a bat will help make the surface even again if there are a lot of scrapes and dings, on either a maple or ash bat. For ash bats, boning is more important because it's a more porous than maple, it will help harden the surface and close the pores by boning the wood of an ash bat. Don't bone a bat if it has finishing on it, you will just ruin or take off the finish. So Bone! If you are looking for a professional quality maple bat. Check out www.annexbaseball.com
