My 13yr old 8th grader just found out yesterday that he made the 9th grade Freshman Team. He is on cloud 9 and this goes to show you that Hard work and good work ethics go a long way.

Talent overcomes everything else!

Thanks to everyone and this website for the opinions and the knowledge on how to make the HighSchool Team!

Biggerpapapi No problem.

CIF in San Diego treats Freshman Ball as a travel select team. They are affiliated with the HighSchool by name only. It is primarily a travel team and yes he can play 5 years. Now some Prep Schools or UT sections do not allow 8th grade involvement, you have to be a registered 9th grader. The section my son is in allow 8th graders to compete. Just registered for his AAU Card last night.
Congrats BaseballBum to your son! May he have many wonderful years of baseball ahead of him!

In Kentucky, middle schoolers may try out for HS team. Various coaches have differing philosophies on taking them, but they can try out according to KHSAA rules. If they were to make the team, those years do not count against their 4 years of HS eligibility. Kinda "free" years so to speak.
The way I see it, I wanted him to get the experience of trying out for a HighSchool Team. What it entails and what he needed to improve on. There was a lot of running and after his first couple of practices he wanted to take a hot bath and sleep, that was it!

Him making the team is just icing on the cake. Once again this website was very valuable and he still has the list nailed to the wall.
