Ok Trojan here is one from my fellow teacher that teaches 8th grade social studies...

He was discussing the election of 1860, and had a map up that showed the blue states for Lincoln and the Red states for Douglas etc.

A student asks, who did the purple states vote for?

The teacher is totally confused because there aren't any states colored purple...

Another student pipes up, those aren't states those are the Great Lakes!

Lucky me, I teach science.
I was teaching geography several years ago and had a map of the US pulled down. I had this one girl with a puzzled look on her face and she finally asked if there was "a hole in Florida"? I had no idea what she was talking about until she walked up to the map and pointed at Lake Okeechobee.

Same girl also asked if Washington DC was an island. Once again I had no idea what she was talking about until she brought the book up. It had a map that showed Washington DC written in the Atlantic Ocean but with a line drawn pointing to where it is on the mainland. She thought since it was written in the ocean it had to be an island.
We're just going to chalk this one up to, "it's CPLZ, and his mind just works differently", ok?

Your stories reminded me of this...

During the lend-lease era of WWII when the US was sending the majority of Russia its tools of war and support (i.e. hundreds of thousands of boots and coats, etc)...Russia asked the US to send condoms and it sent the specs...saying it would like them 18 inches long.

Not wanting to be outdone, the US complied and sent an order of the prophylactics....and marked the box MEDIUMS. Big Grin
