Its too bad when someone wants to air personal, dirty laundry on a normally helpful website like this.

Too bad because the now-locked thread apparently cannot be discussed and thus be helpful to Northern California posters in making important decisions about summer programs.

I don't disrepect dissenting opinions...but make your point once without libelous innuendo and without arguing with every other poster and move on. No one benefits from that. Frown

Justbaseball,
I was following the NorCal thread and decided to lock it simply because it was no longer about NorCal...or baseball. I think it started off in the right manner but made a left turn. Compliments and critiques are fine but historically when posts get off track and personal in nature, they seldom return to constructive baseball dialogue.
Hope you understand.

I get lampooned, insulted, flamed, denigrated ad nauseum by the regular posters here.

Rob made the opening comment on me and limom84.

Rob, is the one with the problem...I wrote a personal email to him and offered to forget the disagreement we had. Never heard from him until he started his big mouth stuff here.

I am not going to stand by while you guys take potshots at me and my son.

The innuendo and libel is unending coming from posters here to many posters beside me.

Talk about looking through your own prism.

I came back here to try to talk about BB, but the natives are restless here and can't stop beating the war drums.

If you haven't read Lord Of The Flies maybe it's time for all of you to do a book review.

Your buddies are worshipping the "monster" Boarhead.

I don't post much anymore, but had to jump in. My son Steve just walked in my office and checked out the thread(s). (Previous Norcal player.)
NorCal provided wonderful opportunities for him when a local program, the "Carson Capitols" retired after 25+ years. Rob, Tony and the other coaches showed nothing but respect for my son and he made some great friends on the team.
We found the program to be nothing but first class and there is no doubt in my mind that the program provided tremendous exposure for him.
In my son's class of '03 (Summer team of '02), I believe at least 20 players received D1 opportunities.
As an aside, to Rob, Tony (NorCal)and Doug (BBScout), Steve wanted me to make sure to say 'Hello" to you. He's off to a workout. Take care.
Pic,

I know your opinion on this and so does everyone else...can you just move on to another thread or something and let others state theirs? Then if a Northern California parent wants to know about this subject, they can read all of them and make up their own mind.

Going back and forth only shuts the thread down and cuts off a supply of information for others.

Please just drop it.

This is your thread but you started it with a post which has an inference to me that my right to self defense here only extends to the "regulars" and those of us who you guys choose to give the "business" to should just shut up and let you say whatever libelous drivel you want to spew.

Sorry but I won't stand by and be talked about as though I should be invisible as you all pick your best insult to deliver.

JB you sound like a nice guy but don't ask me to willingly be a punching bag...I'm not Jackie Robinson and this is not the 50's anymore.
My son was also treated unfairly by NorCal.
I signed him up for their fall ball program 4 years ago. He did well and was invited to go to a tourney down south. In the 5 games he pitched 4 innings and got maybe 3 ab’s (only because I complained) and they won the tourney. He ended up making the summer team and, to my wife’s dismay, we paid the fees and traveled with them to the JO’s in Arizona. In 8 games he got 8 innings of play! The team took 4th out of 72.
When we got home we sat down and talked about it. We could either find another team to play on and he could return to being the star that he was accustom to, or he could put in the work to be an everyday player on NorCal. He decided to stick with NorCal.This fall we dropped him off at a D-1 school where he will continue his baseball career.
Am I saying NorCal got him his scholarship? No, but Bruno did make a phone call that led to it. Am I saying he is a better ballplayer because of NorCal? Yes! It exposed him to the best competition and pressure situations possible! (and some of that was just getting off the bench). Would he have made to a D-1 program without NorCal? I doubt it, not enough exposure in just high school, probably would have ended up at a JC.
I just know the facts, Rob Bruno personally sat down with my son and told him he was not good enough at the time, but he could make it to the next level if he was willing to put the work in. He exposed him to people who could help him, taught him how to market himself to colleges and what scouts will be looking for. I have also heard Rob tell kids they don’t have what it takes to get to the next level and direct them accordingly. And yes it is a business, so is the NCAA and so is MLB, so get over it. There are pluses and minuses to every program. NorCal worked for us it may not work for you, find one that will.
Rob also has always been available to answer to phone and even helped my boy put on a clinic for his senior project.
In short, He cares about the kids and will work as hard for their success as he expects them to.

Once again, thanks for everything Rob.

Pic, I started the thread and as far as the other thread goes, I don't see where Rob mentioned you at all. Andy and Rshard along with others have a bunch of names they use when posting. It seems like any subject that you join in on, you want to vent your unhappiness with anyone that posts. Nor Cal Baseball is outstanding and produces outstanding players and the proof is right there. I talk to parents all the time, and in the past 12 years I have talked to hundreds of parents and you are the only one that I have heard speak poorly about the program.

You are right about one thing though......you are not Jackie Robinson.

The underlying sophistry of your post belies its intent. As a symbol of manhood Jackie did his talking with his performance...

Unfortunately that method of justification is only available in the interpretive word here.

Had Bruno dealt with me straight up, without deception my opinion of NorCal would similarly be more positive.
Whew - finally a thread on this topic that is still open... Mad

My son did NOT play for NorCal, but I want to comment about the 'treatment' we received from Rob Bruno over the past several years. Despite the fact that we did not play NorCal, Rob was nothing but supportive of my son during his high school career -- he has always been very honest in his assessment of his performance (both good and bad) and I am quite sure played an important part in helping him achieve his college goals. If I want someone to tell me how great my son always is, I would go elsewhere (or just ask myself Big Grin), but if I want an honest, straightforward opinion from someone who really knows what he is talking about, you can be sure I will go straight to Rob. We're lucky in Northern California to have several good options for talented players -- Rob and his staff run one of the very best. I don't know where you are coming from PiC, but I feel sorry for you and the amount of misguided angst and energy you have clearly expended. Rob may be blunt and a bit colorful at times Wink, but he is never deceitful and always honest, in my experience. I read the post from Northern_Calif Dad and have to ask - whose son has the best life learning? The one whose parent threatened litigation or the one who used his experience as a way to become a better person and player.

I personally have never met Mr Bruno, but I can tell you that my son competed against his team several times over the course of his travel ball days.

Do I like Mr Bruno? As a person, I couldn't tell you because I never met him. But we know several players who competed on his team and always had a good word for him and his program.

And I can also tell you that every time we saw his team coming ... whether in Florida or California ... there were sighs and such emanating from my son's dugout ... the NorCal team was alway great competition with quality players, and good coaching.

No one makes themselves a punching bag, they become one because in every case as with all children, one kid decides to stand up to the yard bullies...and I don't mind playing that role here.

Amd since it is obvious that I stand alone here in defense for the right for all players to be treated with respect and honest dealing by unscrupulous promoters, I welcome the battle in that effort.

It is with pride that I can say in spite of the testimony in his support that I refused to be hoodwinked by Rob just so my son would be accepted into the circle of those who achieved status through undo influence.

Personally I would take the association with men like my son anyday, over all the men in baseball that the Rob Bruno's represent.

No physics, no philosophy and no pseudo intellectual use of multi-syllabic words.

Just a direct statement of opinion.

As one of the original members here and a moderator I request that cease and desist with your nonsense----

CASE Closed---one more libelous post and you arer are gone ---I will delete every post you make until the time that you are locked out--

This site was set up for educated debate and education on the recruitng process--not for you or any other poster to spew venom--I ask you again--did your son try out for NorCal and not make it?

Also ---no young man needs to wear a dress at the behest of a captain!!!! The coach runs the team and hands our punishment not the kids--you are esposing fraternity B-S --inmates running the prison-- I will reiterate what another has already posted--if it was your son in the dress it would be a violation of his civil rights--it isnt your kid so it is ok--- wearing the dress isnt disipline, it is humiliation--- can a teacher do that in the classroom ? I think not

To sooth my nerves I just put FROM THE CRADLE by Eric Clapton on the DVD Drive--perhaps he can relax me because pal you and your ill advised thinking is making me nervous-- it is truly scary

TR

Let's see if I understand.

You and your friends here are the only ones allowed to libel me with impunity.

Sorry, I reserve the right to respectfully continue to defend myself against your insinuations, innuendo, insults, and other subtleties that have underlying premises that amount to the same thing.

Your threats don't bother me. Just your continually posting your garbage, then accusing everyone else here of hurting your feelings when they take you to task for it.

I did answer your question about RB and Norcal out of the kindness of our previous association in our wonderful mutual and respectful admiration for one another. Was recruited by USA Baseball, Norcal is there rep in Northern California. Our son made the team, had our ta ta with RB, got that resolved I thought, but apparently not. Then moved on.

The "Heels" here outnumber the "Toes" so I assume you will win your survey. But it doesn't prove anything accept I'm fighting an uphill battle. But right always wins out over might in the end...a lesson you haven't apparently learned in all your years on this wonderful Earth of ours.

But so be it.

Recruited by USA baseball? Thats boloney. How pretentous that statement is. It attempts to say something other than the fact that your kid tried out for a good JO team and made it, something thousands of good 16 yo players are proud of.

Not you though.

You obviously feel inadaquate about something your son accomplished, something most parents would be proud of.

To me that's sad.

Sir, you have more issues than a message board can resolve. I suggest you look elsewhere for resolution.

Good luck with that though
