I know I'm picking hairs here, but I took that as a slight against D3 Juco baseball... There are some quite good programs that churn out good talent. Eastfield always manages to move guys along nicely.

Well then how about this. That joke would offend any division 3 Juco player because it slightly infers that they are illegitimate, and that anyone throwing 75-78 could play at any of the top programs. Or maybe you can make some Jew jokes that also are "clever and funny" and we can laugh about those, too, because big red, seriously, needs to recognize a joke when he sees it.

Or maybe we can understand that offensive jokes are offensive to the people they offend, and we can acknowledge that we have slighted a population of very good baseball players, and then move on. The post was funny--the fact that people think it is "ok" to so casually insult a group of players is not.

luvtxball, seriously, Beast was joking. OBVIOUSLY. Let's understand that words have meaning, and that funny jokes are funny, so long as they are appropriate.

The reality is that most D3 & JuCo guys are not as good as D1 guys. That not discriminatory, offensive, nor insulting. It is a fact.

It is also a fact that some D3 & JuCo guys are as good or better than most of the D1 guys. That is a fact as well.

If you find the "Johnny Wholestaff" post offensive, you have some issues.

Let's clarify my point, as it has been intentionally misconstrued by all of my detractors. The straw man argument is cute so long as it is made by 12 year olds.

Most D3 and Juco guys are not as good as D1 guys. This is not news, or insulting. Anyone who has bothered to watch a d3 juco game (myself not included) can see this. It is a fact.

There is, however, a clear sarcasm underlining both Beast's original joke and his "apology." (If you did actually mean to apologize, I hope you accept my own apology)

Discrimination is inherent in the English culture, and also in the language. There is a direct relation between the two. The way we talk is the way we there. If there is a manifest discrimination in the manner of speaking, the same goes in the manner of thinking. People dismiss "PC" talk without thought, as if it is some sort of governmental conspiracy. There is a logical thought process behind it. It is taken to far--yes--but where it is violated, it is violated.

Now, I have had the pleasure of both playing with and watching players who went on to play d3 Juco baseball. This obviously is not an accomplishment. Anyone throwing 75-78 (who is also left handed!) can merit this honor. It's just that easy.

Or maybe here is where I am actually upset at you. "Great Bambino" who just joined, is asking an innocuous question, albeit one that has been asked many times before, and is somewhat annoying to those who frequent this site. Maybe instead of giving him a facetious answer, in which we insult her/him (to assume a male identity is to be guilty of gender-biased language) maybe we can tell her/him that the very question is seen as unfit for these boards. Surely, the person posing the question just wants to see their son's name! There can be no other reason.

Good luck to all of your son's teams in the playoffs. If these are their last games, cherish it. Baseball builds character in an unparalleled way. If these aren't your sons last games, cherish it. These are the last times you get to talk to your son about a game after it happens... more important than you think.

Big Red..... so you get mad at The Beast for trying to be funny and then you insult D3 Juco players even worse by saying " It is obviously not an accomplishment." ???

Anyone playing any level of college baseball is an accomplishment.
If this many people disagree with me, then I'm probably off base.

I do, however, think this board should change the way it treats new members. I know this silly thread shows up every year (along with high school pre-season rankings and the DBat bashing thread) and in it sons and son's teammates are always plugged. But I don't think it's necessary to insult the woman/man with a joke, and then another two posts congratulating the poster on that joke.

Oblivious...
Big Red,

I must apologize for asking a question that "is somewhat annoying to those who frequent this site." Yes I did just join this website after hearing a parent speak about it at a HS game this year. I have no children, a could care less who made this thread. I was simply interesting in knowing because I enjoy going to watch them play. As for your rant, ill bet you are probably a parent who does have a son (congrats) who never made a thread, and only had the opportunity to play D3 juco. Sorry not play D3 Juco, pay the tuition and practice to meet the quota that these small schools need to meet to keep the program alive. But I bet your kid still got a snocone after each game huh. Stay "HOT" Big Red.
Big Wood, Doing pretty good. He is home licking his wounds from a tough season getting ready for the fall. His team lost in the 9th inning of the second championship game at the regional to a very good Grayson team. He was part of great team effort, everybody on his team contributed in some way. They all fought hard together all season. They were fun to watch. He learned that there are no easy outs in college baseball. You have to battle every inning because 1 thru 9 can hit. Some days when you don't have your best stuff you have to find a way to get people out.

Wrong on both accounts. If you'd bother to actually read what I said, you would have picked up on that.

I'm going to do you a favor and give you the information you requested, something no one on this thread has bothered to give.

If you want to see two very good 2012's, go to the Heath v. Hillcrest game. You will get to see both Jake Thompson and Jovan Hernandez, both of whom have will have a future in baseball. Hillcrest has a very good line-up 1-9. They will most likely throw Paul Peters game 2. He has a very good changeup to go along with a plus fastball. He is fun to watch when he is on. Spencer Klein will throw game 3 if it happens (or game 2 perhaps) and he has a plus curveball that he locates well, to go along with a mid-80's fastball. Taylor Hinojosa and Peters both swing the bat really well, and that team belongs in the series with Heath, who if I had to guess will pull this series out. A lot of star power on that team, and I would imagine that team is very hungry and very upset over game 1.

Other good series to go see. Haven't gotten to see Plano yet this year, but as a program they have no qualms about playing younger guys. Southlake, on the other hand, has in my opinion two of the best 5 players in Texas. Kyle Bailey can rake, and Curtiss throws the ball as well as anyone. Not sure if he threw game one though... based on that line score, probably not.

As far as Poteet goes, Nowell's never seem to go away, and Blake Griffin is as crafty as they come.

Jesuit is also fun to watch. Not sure about Boyd this year, although that record speaks for itself. I'm assuming Powell threw the first game. To pull a comparison of a guy who used to be on this board, Powell reminds me of Kyle Meindhardt a little bit, albeit with a better fastball. Terry and Bell anchor that team. You will see Bell on TV someday, and Terry has the potential to make big things happen at Nebraska, and perhaps further on. I would guess that Vander Heiden will throw game two, although I think I might have heard that he is hurt.

The best series that is happening right now is Wakeland Highland Park. The eye test should suffice for those games... a lot of guys who can really stroke it on both of those teams. Did Edwards start game 1? Or did they go with Wilson on the road? I expect that to go to game 3.

Ask this somewhat annoying question again next year and I will give you a serious answer as to who to go see. A lot of the good 2013's that I know have been eliminated. Sharp (still around?) and Hinojosa always have good young teams. The pats 16U and the Tigers are also talented. Dallas Dback's in my opinion will be on the level of those two soon, if not already. I feel like I'm missing a team or two...please help me out. Summer baseball is no longer too much of a concern of mine, but has a lot to say about being the better form of baseball than political old high school ball.
