I have always been more of a Legion guy, but I have been watching some of these summer league travel teams and it got me wondering who are some of the top summer league teams in Illinois?
Yesterday I saw the Norwood Blues play the Lakeside Cardinals. Two D1 pitchers at the top of their game. Jack Havey from Northwestern by way of Loyola and Robert Kennedy from Bradley by way of Northside Prep. 0-0 ties in an errorless game. Stopped after 7 innings. Wood bat. Doesn't get much better than that.
The two best teams I have seen were the Sparks vs the Mchenry Hurricanes. The Hurricanes won the game 8-5 and took the championship, but the Sparks had there chances and could have easliy won it.
The Top Collegiate Tourney in Bloomington-Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan this past weekend drew 56 Travel Teams who competed for the championship
The Longshots 09 team won the title by defeating Team Pro Player 18u team 9-2 for the championship.. There were some great games in the 115 game tourney but the Longshots team won BACK TO BACK successive titles..
This tourney is tough...and the Longshots 09 team prevailed again...Great accomplishment for this squad which were well schooled and played great baseball throughout the tourney.
Team Pro Player was seeded #1 and the Longshots #2 after 3 pool play games based on their won-loss records and RUNS ALLOWED... This system must work as the #1 and #2 teams played for the championship.
Overall the Illinois Sparks, Top Tier, longshots 2010, Longshots 09, Team pro Player, McHenry County Hurricanes 17u team, St Louis Pirates 09, St Louis Gamers, Dupage Outlaws, Academy Elite Americans, Cherokee Baseball, Midwest Elite and Boyz of Summer have shown some class and good play this summer.
All of the teams have fared pretty well but the teams above in DSP events have shined when they had to. Alot of good Missouri teams this year..but illinois travel teams continue to expand which makes it difficult to have several outstanding programs.....but alot of individual "future " players out there.
