I remember reading on this forum over the years about a Showcase up in the NE if I remember right, for Top Students that are heading to Ivy's or top schools like Trinity in Texas.

Can't seem to find it in my list of 500 favorites. After vacation, gonna have to really pair it down to a managable amount Big Grin

Kellerdad,

Not sure which academic showcase you are referring to.

My suggestion is to contact coaches at top academic schools and ask them which events are the best and the ones they attend. A good start would be Joe Walsh at Harvard or the other Ivy League or service academy coaches. They attend the best academic type events as well as many others.

Also you could check with schools like Duke, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Stanford, etc etc etc.

These coaches and many others don’t mind because they have strict requirements and want to see as many talented outstanding students who can play baseball as possible. You’re actually doing them a favor by asking.

If they blow you off… consider it research!
PG,

Should have known it was one of your showcases. Can you give some information about the one you have scheduled for June 12-13th in Florida?

How can you get an invite?

Who historically has attended in the past?

My (2007) son is a very gifted student and a pretty good ballplayer, but my pocketbook hurts thinking about the Ivy's. Big Grin

At one time he showed interest in the AF Academy. The last year or so when he figured out his eyesight would prohibit him from flying jets he has lost interest.

Kellerdad,

Regarding our academic events you are more than welcome to get information. I'm stuck in FL for the next 2 weeks, but if you email me later I will answer any questions. Better yet, I'll give you my cell # and you can pick the precious little bit that remains inside this head.

By the way, There are other good events, ie. Stanford Camp where top academic coaches attend.

I just thought the best people to ask are those most important... the actual coaches. Ours is pretty good, but there are others. We just don't know as much about the others. Those coaches at top academic schools, would know!
Thanks PG, I am leaving myself tomorrow for 8 days in Hawai'i.

I must say though, I graduated HS in NW Illinois, not too far from Cedar Rapids, and using the term "Stuck in Florida" this time of year is kinda a misnomer if you ask me. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I'll give you a shout when you return from your events in Florida. I have also sent Coach Walsh an email along with Coach McFarland at Duke and Coach Scannell at Trinity.

I can hear my retirement being moved further and further in the future with each email sent.
