Just not sure I am enjoying this "classic".

IMO, glorified spring training games, how can outcomes really be determined when half these guys have a whole season of real important stuff in front of them? Pitchers really not in true form until later in season.

Good to watch some baseball on TV though....
Today's Canada/USA game was great! IMO

It is fun watching all the kids who we saw as young high school players now on this big stage. Over 70 on the combined WBC rosters.

Today's game had Votto, Davidson, Leroux, Weglarz, Lawrie for Canada and Wright, Braun, McCann, Thornton, Hanrahan, Howell, Putz for USA.

Joey Votto almost single handedly beat USA, 4 for 5 HR, double two RBI. Brian McCann hit a 2 run HR for USA and drove in another run with a sac fly. 6-5 USA win.

I love it.
If you can't get fired up about National pride,
And Baseball?

National pride worked years ago when U.S. ballplayers played for their country and foreign players played for their own.

Arod is a U.S born player and plays for the Dominican.

You're never gonna duplicate the national pride that was drawn from the US-USSR hockey game.

The WBC is a meaningless exhibition. No more no less.

As for the WBC, how can anybody get excited over games that don't count and mean less than spring training. Even spring training games, you got minor leaguers fighting for spots on rosters for when the games do count.
The Dutch have got a few guys from MLB and a number of MiLB players. Just no "names" other than Ponson...and he's interviewing. Lots from Aruba and the Antilles. Most play on professional Dutch clubs.

They've been impressive --- taking advantage against the DR, and hanging with PR (and look who all is on THAT roster!). Yeah, European baseball! (or, in this case, hooray honkbal!)

They certainly relaxed the national team rules for the WBC. In international play, you have to carry a passport of that country to qualify. Having an 'i' at the end of your name, for example, doesn't buy your way onto the Italian team....
