Golfball - Your son was a stud in the MD/UVA super regional. He's getting hot at the right time, and played some stellar defense as well.  I'm pulling for him every time he comes the plate.  Glad to see you posting again, and best of luck in Omaha.

Wow, Congrats and good luck to your son and his team!  What a year for college baseball, If the WS games are ½ as good as the regional games have been its still going to be great to watch.  The intensity and excitement generated by some of those home crowds the last couple weeks has been awesome.  The performances on the field by all of these young men, win or lose, have been exceptional.

I hope family gets first crack at tickets, from the Virginia website below maybe not?  It would probably be an NCAA violation if family was given any kind of preference over the general population.

“As a CWS participant, Virginia receives 700 tickets for each game in which the Cavaliers play, including tickets to be used for team seating. Virginia will not receive tickets for games in which the Cavaliers do not play.

Reserved tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Tuesday (June 10) to Virginia Athletics Foundation donors and Virginia baseball season ticket holders. If tickets remain available, a public sale will be held June 11-12; fans must have a currently existing Virginia Athletics Ticket Office account in order to purchase tickets. Donors and season ticket holders can log in here to order tickets online. Virginia will not block any rooms for UVa fans for the CWS.”

There are must dos while at the CWS. Omaha Steaks and funnel cake.  Before you buy ANYTHING, price it out.  The team gear and shirts and paraphernalia get cheaper  as the week goes on or when a team loses.  We spent a fortune the day we got there and really got better deals the day we left.  Its shameful how much we spent.  But did we have a great time doing it!

Our first hotel downtown was too much money, so we moved out to a Best Western up the rode.  There were quite a few families from our team who did the same.  As the teams exist the rooms become available.

I do believe that each player gets comp tics but there is a limit.  I remember that you must exit after each game. We went to other games and paid, but if I recall the player gets in to all games for free?

It's called Old Market, just to be sure no one is looking for Old Town and confused, it's near the stadium...just a short walk.  Nicolas is great.  If you want the best steak in town, IMHO, go to Omaha Prime.  It's pricey but worth it for a treat.  Also catch a malt at Goodrich dairy if you can.  And a value steak can be found just west of downtown on Dodge...Warren Buffet's favorite place, called Gorats.  And make sure you get a Runza before you leave...trust me, great food.

PS...don't forget to pick up some Husker gear!

I am catching up, just reading this thread!  Wow, there are a good number of posters with sons playing on the Road to Omaha and several actually in Omaha!  Congrats to those who are there, I wish it was me.  My son plays at Pepperdine and a week after elimination I am just now healing.....3 outs away, so close but so far.

By far and away this was the most amazing baseball experience we have had.  From winning the Cal Poly regionals as the number 3 seed to taking national seed TCU to three games and a lead into the 9th inning of the third game all of our NCAA games were decided by one run.  I have more gray hair then I did 3 weeks ago.

I saw some excellent baseball and watched players who gave their hearts and souls in their efforts on the field.  College sports are so much better then professional sports in my opinion.  I walked passed teams after they lost and felt their pain and I felt the pain of the Pepperdine players when our ride was over.  Everyone of those boys I watched, our team and our opponents, I have incredible respect for.  The effort and work they put in while being students is really an accomplishment.

Pepperdine had a special year and yes we lose a lot (Aaron Brown's aren't easy to replace!) but now that they have had a taste of a super regional and felt the pain of letting the CWS slip out of their grasp I have no doubt they will be back.

Honestly, for a school with about 3500 undergrads and although not Stanford, difficult admissions requirements and a significant price tag to attend, this program does a very good job of retooling.

For now, Go EATERS......I am a UC Irvine Fan.  I hope for all the parents of boys still playing a wonderful experience in Omaha!

Calisportsfan,

I feel your pain I was watching Pepperdine work their way through the regionals and supers and was watching the final game. My son has a couple of friends on the team and we were rooting for you. Darn it, so close but so far, Baseball truly is a cruel sport.

Will be interesting to see what the team looks like next year as a bunch of draft picks will be gone.

Good luck to CSFjr this summer.
